Innovation & Enterprise

“Taking the mystery out of our starting your own business”

Colin Crooks, CEO of Tree Shepherd, winner of Lambeth Community Pride Award for Innovation and Enterprise.

TRAs, estates and community organisations want people to thrive, socially, in health and wellbeing and with their work and finance. Tree Shepherd, an inspirational community organisation, helps residents to get their business ideas off the ground. Colin, winner of the Lambeth Community Pride Award 2016 for Innovation and Enterprise, will talk about taking the mystery out of starting your own business. Tree Shepherd is an organisation that can help get your idea off the ground.

Colin will introduce Tree Shepherds unique approach to supporting new enterprises. They help anyone who has a notion to start a business whether you have a clear idea or no idea, whether you’ve started or are just thinking about it. They can help you to start-up with no investment and they support you on the whole journey. The talk will cover the main concerns people have when starting up and describe how Tree Shepherd helps overcome them”.

The evening is free and is supported by Pop Brixton’s community engagement.

The formal networking is from 7pm-9pm, but the main hall is open until 10pm, and the site is open late for people who wish to continue to chat or eat and drink from the local vendors.

The Lambeth Network is a collaborative forum run for and by tenants and residents associations (TRAs) and community organisations in Lambeth with regular meetings on topics hosted by member organisations with topics chosen by them.

“The idea for The Lambeth TRA Network came from Lambeth’s Tenants’ conference 2014, when I met so many amazing people who had done amazing things in their communities. I had just been ‘thrown in the deep end’ chairing my TRA, and had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. So I said to Mark Howarth, resident engagement officer,  “wouldn’t it be great if we could get together more than once a year – maybe on a regular basis” – and that was the start of the TRA Network.”

Hosted several times a year on a different estate or community centre each time, the Network is there for us to help each other in running our community organisations more effectively, by:

  • Develop strategies that drive best practices within their respective organisation
  • Support leaders in their efforts
  • Help develop their leadership skills and talents
  • Provide a platform for cross-organisation collaboration, access to sharing resources, skills and knowledge
  • Encourage member networks to expand their resident engagement
  • Increase diversity and inclusion for organisations

We are filming the evening to share the talks with others on our web site. Please let the photographer know if you do not wish your picture to be put on our website.
